Stanisławów Drugi
Stanisławów Drugi lies on the border with Legionowo and grew out of a scattered settlement still visible on interwar maps. Until 2002 it was called Stanisławów koło Legionowa, which distinguished it from today’s Stanisławów Pierwszy. Much older human presence is confirmed by archaeological sites with traces of settlements and burial grounds from prehistory to the Middle Ages.
The most important historical landmark is the iron cross on ul. Wolska. Near this spot, on 1 September 1939, a damaged PZL P.7a fighter flown by Captain Mieczysław Leonard Olszewski of the 123rd Fighter Squadron made a forced landing. The badly wounded pilot died after landing.
In 2017 researchers found fragments of the aircraft’s skin here and pinpointed the crash site more precisely. Thanks to this, the now peaceful village has preserved a clear trace of the first day of the Polish Air Force’s fight to defend Warsaw.
