At the edge of the “Puszcza Słupecka” reserve, near Czarna Struga, is a site connected with tragic events of August 1947. According to the account of a witness who was carting timber at dawn, a military patrol ordered him to turn back. Moments later he heard shots coming from deep in the forest.

In the evening the man returned to the spot and saw a fresh grave. The earth revealed part of a body in a pre-war Polish Army uniform. Local people commemorated the victim with a cross bearing the inscription: “To the Unknown Officer of the Polish Army, shot in August 1947 – honour to his memory.”

In 2019 an exhumation and archaeological investigation were carried out. The remains of two people were found, along with military buttons bearing the crowned eagle and spent cartridge cases. The identities of those murdered and the circumstances of their deaths remain unknown. Their memory has survived thanks to local residents who looked after the grave for years.
