The Puszcza Słupecka (Słupno Forest) reserve, established in 1994, protects about 160 hectares of forest in the Czarna River valley. It is a remnant of the ancient forest that once stretched between Bródno and Słupno.

Alders and birches grow in the reserve, and the plants found here include mezereon (Daphne mezereum). The area is also valuable for its diversity of lichens and lichenicolous fungi – almost a hundred species have been recorded here, including several very rare ones.

Although forest dominates today, in the interwar period the area was almost treeless. The woodland regenerated through natural succession and planting. The reserve has no designated trails or paths for visitors, so it is best admired from the outside – for example from the footbridge over the Czarna.
