A memorial stone in Stanisławów Pierwszy commemorates two Home Army soldiers who were killed while covering a transport of weapons for the Polish underground.

On 17 June 1943, weapons were being carried by horse-drawn cart from the meadows near Izabelin. They were escorted by officer cadets Mieczysław Stępnowski, codename “Alfa”, and Stanisław Felicki, codename “Skiba”. When German soldiers stopped the cart and discovered the cargo, the two men opened fire, giving the others time to get the weapons away. Sadly, they were killed on the spot. Mieczysław was 25 and Stanisław 21.

A year later, Home Army soldiers erected a birch cross at the site of the fight. In 1957 a veterans’ association funded the memorial. “Alfa” and “Skiba” were posthumously awarded the Virtuti Militari Cross. The memorial pays tribute to their courage and sacrifice.
