Wayside Shrine from 1900
Behind an iron fence stands a small brick wayside shrine with a two-tier body, a hipped roof and an iron cross. In a glazed niche there is a statue of Our Lady of the Rosary.
A plaque states that the shrine was funded by local residents asking for God’s blessing through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It bears the date 1900 and notes that the shrine was restored in 2009.
According to a local story, the shrine was built in thanksgiving for the rescue of a priest whose horses bolted while he was travelling in a britzka. No record confirming this story has survived, but its memory lives on in local tradition.
