Statue of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted
The statue of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, stands next to the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nieporęt. The plinth bears the inscription: “Comforter of the afflicted, pray for us. Statue founded by Jakób Dębkowski, 1863.”
According to local tradition, Jakób Dębkowski, a landowner from Dąbkowizna, was exiled to Siberia after the January Uprising. On his return he funded the statue as a votive offering of thanks for his survival. It is therefore not only an object of devotion but also a reminder of the personal story of a local resident.
The statue was restored in 2002. Its location also recalls the long history of the parish in Nieporęt, which dates back to the 17th century.
