Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Baroque parish church in Nieporęt was founded by King John II Casimir Vasa as a votive offering of thanks for the victory over the Swedes. The foundation charter was signed in April 1668. The church is built on a Latin cross plan with the traditional east–west orientation. In the 18th century buttresses were added to strengthen the cracking walls. The church is listed in the register of historic monuments.
In the bright interior, Baroque blends with elements of Classicism. The high altar features a painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa by Elwira Burska-Szubarga. Also worth noting are the marble baptismal font from 1881, a copy of the painting of Christ the King and a black marble portal decorated with the Vasa coat of arms.
Next to the church stands an 18th-century bell tower that also serves as a gate. The older of its two bells was cast in 1739; the younger, from 1954, commemorates John Casimir and his ties with Nieporęt. The churchyard also has a statue of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, from 1863 and surviving gravestones from the former churchyard cemetery.
