Rynia 1424–2024 Commemorative Stone
The “Rynia 1424–2024” stone stands by the community centre in Rynia. It was unveiled and blessed on 8 June 2024 during the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the first known written mention of the village.
The record from 1424 concerned a dispute between two local noblemen. Jan of Rynia swore in court that he had not carted away manure belonging to Witek with two wagons and with the help of another person. The oath, written down in Polish, is the first known sentence in that language connected with a village that today belongs to Nieporęt Municipality.
The village probably existed earlier, but it is this court document that marks the beginning of its documented history. The anniversary stone commemorates six centuries of Rynia and the ordinary dispute thanks to which the village’s name survived in medieval sources.
