Michałów-Grabina: Wayside Shrine from 1911
The brick wayside shrine from 1911 is one of the small religious monuments of Nieporęt Municipality. It takes the form of a pillar, and its hipped roof is crowned with an iron cross bearing the figure of Christ. In the open niche there is a statue of Our Lady of the Rosary.
Below it hangs a votive plaque with an image of Christ wearing the crown of thorns and the inscription: “A.D. 1911. Mother of God, keep us in your care.” A smaller plaque states that Józef Kowalski, who funded the shrine, was to “extend his life by 7 years, as had been promised to him”. The circumstances of this promise are unknown.
Surrounded by a small iron fence, the shrine is a reminder of faith, local traditions and the former residents who left a lasting mark.
