Zegrze Południowe is a village on the Zegrze Reservoir whose development was shaped by Russian barracks from the late 19th century. Traces of them survive today in the Military Estate (Osiedle Wojskowe) and the remaining buildings of the former complex in Zagroby.

In 1917, regiments of the Polish Legions were stationed here. Their refusal to swear allegiance to Germany and Austria-Hungary links the village with the history of the Oath Crisis.

Since 1963, when the Zegrze Reservoir was created, Zegrze Południowe has also been a place for recreation. It is a good starting point for a walk around the Military Estate and to the nearby memorial sites.
