The 100th Anniversary of Independence Route is a modern, 8-kilometre walking and cycling path along the canal, running from the Warsaw city boundary to Nieporęt Municipality and the Zegrze Reservoir. It is a flat, easy path, ideal for families with children and beginner cyclists.

The route is partly lit and has benches, bins and bike repair stations. The asphalt surface runs parallel to the canal, with views of bridges, locks, marinas and small bays with yachts. Along the way you also pass a marina that makes a good place for a short break.

If you are starting from Warsaw, the best places to set off from are near the Grot-Rowecki Bridge or ul. Łabiszyńska. The whole loop from Warsaw and back can be 30–40 km, depending on the variant. The surface is mainly asphalt, with gravel in places – a road or hybrid bike is recommended. The history of the canal goes back to the 17th century, when Sigismund III Vasa ordered the construction of the Royal Canal to regulate the waters and protect the hunting lodge in Nieporęt. The modern Żerań Canal was built in the 1950s as part of an industrial vision for the development of Warsaw. The route ends at the Zegrze Reservoir, where you can extend your trip along the shore, stroll along the promenades or stop at a café with a view of the water.
